HOW WE CAN HELP
Tooth Removal Options
Damaged Or Broken Tooth
If a tooth has been severely damaged and cannot be predictably restored, removal may be the most appropriate option before discussing replacement options.
Infected Tooth
When infection cannot be successfully managed with other treatments, removing the affected tooth may help eliminate the source of pain and infection.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth that are painful, infected, partially erupted or affecting neighbouring teeth may require removal following assessment.
Not Every Painful Tooth Needs To Be Removed
If another treatment such as a filling, root canal treatment or crown—is suitable, we'll explain those options before recommending extraction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every painful tooth need to be removed?
No. Many painful teeth can be treated with fillings, root canal treatment or crowns. Following a thorough examination, we’ll explain whether your tooth can be preserved or whether removal is the most appropriate option.
Is tooth removal painful?
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the area before treatment begins. While you may feel pressure during the procedure, you should not feel sharp pain. Some discomfort afterwards is normal and can usually be managed with the aftercare advice provided.
How long does tooth removal take?
Most straightforward tooth removals are completed within a relatively short appointment, although the exact time depends on the condition and position of the tooth. More complex cases, including some wisdom teeth, may require additional time.
What should I eat after having a tooth removed?
Soft foods such as yoghurt, soup (cooled), mashed vegetables, pasta, scrambled eggs and smoothies are often recommended during the early stages of healing. Avoid very hot, crunchy or hard foods until advised by your dentist.
How long does healing take?
Initial healing generally occurs over the first one to two weeks, although complete healing of the underlying bone takes longer. Healing varies depending on the individual and the complexity of the extraction.
Will I need to replace my missing tooth?
Not every missing tooth requires replacement, but depending on its location and your oral health, replacement options such as dental implants, bridges or dentures may be discussed to restore function and appearance.
Can I drive home after my appointment?
If you’ve only had local anaesthetic, most patients are able to drive. If any form of sedation is used, you’ll need someone to accompany you home. We’ll explain this before your appointment if applicable.
Do you remove wisdom teeth?
Yes. We assess wisdom teeth that are painful, infected, impacted or causing problems for neighbouring teeth. Following examination and X-rays, we’ll explain whether removal is recommended.
What happens if I don't remove the tooth?
This depends on the condition of the tooth. In some cases, delaying treatment may allow pain, infection or damage to worsen. We’ll explain the risks, benefits and available alternatives during your consultation.
Are payment plans available?
Yes. Eligible patients may be able to access payment options through Afterpay, Zip, Humm or Fund My Dental. Our team can explain the available options before treatment begins.
Can I return to work after tooth removal?
Many patients return to normal activities within a day or two following a straightforward extraction, although this depends on the complexity of the procedure and the type of work you do. Your dentist will provide personalised advice.
